In 2001 when I began the series of paintings on Christian themes entitled, Wholly Pictures, the time honored Sussex countryside that was almost unknown to me, seemed like a serendipitous discovery waiting to underline the here and now aspect of the subjects I intended to explore. I took all of these photographs as I worked on the paintings.
Whenever appropriate, I try to work the Sussex landscape into my new paintings because it remains a constant source of delight and inspiration.
