The Blinding of Polyphemos group, an inspired reconstruction, is faithful to the original dimensions, obtained by making casts of the remaining parts and supplementing the missing ones. Possibly a 2nd century BC original by the three sculptors Athanadoros son of Hagesandros; Hagesandros son of Paionios; Polydoros son of Polydoros of Rhodes, they also produced the Laokoon Group. The use of long props supports the hypothesis that this group is a marble transposition of a bronze original.
This group It was reconstructed from many fragments discovered around 1960 at Sperlonga a pleasure resort of the Emperor Tiberius ( 14 – 37 AD ).
